
Dr. Mohammad Fotouhi is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Material Health Monitoring group at TU Delft’s Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. His research centers on smart and high-performance composite materials, autonomous inspection systems, and low-cost multifunctional sensors, with applications spanning aerospace, civil infrastructure, and renewable energy. He has authored over 180 scientific papers, 3 book chapters, and holds 3 patents.
Dr. Fotouhi has supervised 4 postdoctoral researchers, 30 MSc, and 12 PhD students, making significant contributions to both academia and industry. He has led or collaborated on more than 6 international and national projects, securing over €3 million in research funding from prestigious organizations such as NWO, EPSRC, and Horizon Europe. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of professional bodies including CompositesNL and RILEM.
He also serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Sensors Review, Composite Materials, and Engineering and Technology. Recognized with numerous awards and honors, Dr. Fotouhi exemplifies leadership in Structural Health Monitoring and sustainable engineering innovation.
